Our patients can feel confident they are receiving safe, high-quality care following General Practice Cremorne’s recent achievement of accreditation under the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for general practices.
The accreditation, awarded by Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) – Australia’s leading not-for-profit provider of general practice accreditation services – recognises the practice’s commitment to maintaining robust systems that support patient safety, clinical governance and continuous improvement.
GPC Principal, Dr Steve Thackway, said achieving accreditation reflects the team’s shared commitment to delivering the highest standard of care and continuously strengthens systems and outcomes for the Lower North Shore community and beyond
“Providing safe, high-quality care for our patients is always our top priority,” Dr Thackway said.
“Accreditation encourages us to regularly review and strengthen how we operate as a practice – from how we manage patient safety and infection control, to how we support our staff and improve the services we provide.”
AGPAL Chair, Mr Gary Smith AM, said accreditation provides independent confirmation that a practice meets nationally recognised standards for quality and safety.
“Achieving accreditation demonstrates that a practice has strong systems in place to support safe and effective patient care,” Mr Smith said.
“It reflects the commitment of the entire practice team to maintaining high standards and continually improving the services they provide to their community.”
To achieve accreditation, practices undergo an independent on-site assessment carried out by an experienced AGPAL assessment team against the RACGP Standards. This process provides a structured, independent evaluation of how systems, governance and clinical practices operate in day-to-day care.
During the accreditation process, practices demonstrate how they manage critical safety and care systems such as vaccine storage and handling, infection prevention and control, regular staff training, equipment maintenance and emergency preparedness.
The AGPAL Accredited certificate signals to patients that General Practice Cremorne has met Australia’s national benchmark for quality and safety in general practice.
For the community, this provides reassurance that their local practice has been independently assessed and meets nationally recognised standards for patient care and safety.
