Covid Winter Dose
With waning immunity and high rates of community transmission, it is now recommended that everyone aged 65 and older have a winter (4th) dose of a covid vaccine. The list of people eligible was recently expanded to include anyone aged 16 and over with certain medical conditions, see the link below in “Further Reading” for the expanded list. The winter dose can be given provided it has been 4 months since your 3rd dose or 3 months after a covid infection. Covid and flu vaccinations can be given on the same day.

Influenza vaccination for children
With an early start to the season we are seeing a rapid increase in the number of flu cases. Vaccination rates remain worryingly low across the board, but particularly in one of the highest risk groups for severe illness – children aged 6 months to 5 years. According to recent NSW Health data, admissions to hospital for flu in this age group has increased significantly. Vaccination can prevent infection and reduce the risk of developing severe illness in this age group, as it can in all age groups. Vaccinating the whole family can also help protect the little ones.

Here at General Practice Cremorne, we are very experienced at giving childhood immunisations; if you have any questions about the flu vaccination for your child please book an appointment.
